Old Witch Lists For Game Night

Following the advice of Von, who left a comment on one of my posts, I thought I would try to take a much simpler Old Witch list to Game Night tomorrow.  Goal being to learn the Old Witch and be able to focus on her and have units with simple tactics to use.  So here are my two lists:

Old Witch 35pts
  • Behemoth
  • Scrappy
  • Battle Mechaniks
  • Great Bears
  • Widowmakers
  • Widowmaker Marksman
  • Manhunter
  • Winterguard Rifle Corps
  • Kovnik Joe
Taking Behemoth for his two bombards gives me some range threat early in the game and then of course his ability to wreck heavy armor with his armor piercing fists.

Battle Mechaniks I thought I would try just to be able to heal systems like the Behemoth's subcortex and hopefully to keep my 'Jacks going a little bit longer.  Secondary duty for them will be to deny charges to my 'Jacks.

Great Bears are a bargain for 5 points and help OW with dealing with armor.  Just gotta make sure I play them aggressively but safe.  Easier said than done right?? :)

Widowmakers and the Marksman.  Taking them because they are a simple unit and I'd like to learn what they can do.  Thinking they can free up lanes, plink enemy 'Jacks to cripple a system or just harass on a flank.  With the Marskman, they will get Swift Hunter which will be icing.  The Marskman I've always liked with his RAT 8 and POW 12 gun.  He has stealth too which is another bonus.

Along with the Marksman, I bring another flanking stealth solo in the Manhunter.  She (bought the female variant) can help with armor duties and I like her two Weapon Master attacks.

For my main infantry unit I want to try the Rifle Corp out.  They fit with OW's denial/control theme with Suppressing fire.  With Joe and Boosted attacks they should tear apart infantry.

Thoughts on The List

It's very different than how I normally play.  Usually I have an infantry unit as my tarpit, helping to deny charges to my 'Jacks.  Here I'll use a combination of Murder of Crows and Suppressing Fire to block lanes from infantry and deny LOS to my 'Jacks.  Theory of course :)  But in looking at the list I feel good about it.  Behemoth, Great Bears, and the Manhunter should be able to deal with enemy armor and I feel confident that Scrappy, Widowmaker group, and the Rifle Corp can handle any infantry.  Widowmakers will be great against Shield Wall units with Sniper.  List is also fairly simple and if I make mistakes with my 'Jacks I'll have the Mechaniks hopefully nearby to repair.  We'll see how it goes. I'll post some batreps of my games and I'll be sure to take some pictures this time.

I also have a 50 point list just in case:

Old Witch 50pts
  •  Behemoth
  • Spriggan
  • Battle Mechaniks (max)
  • Great Bears
  • Aiyanna & Holt
  • Widowmakers
  • Widowmaker Marksman
  • Winterguard Rifle Corps
  • Kovnik Joe
  • Manhunter
Same as the 35pt list except I bring a full unit of Mechaniks since I have two 'Jacks.  Choose the Spriggan for his Reach and tough armor.  Was considering the Devastator but last week when I had him I wished I had more attacking power.  Spriggan can also Bulldoze and starts with ARM 21 which is nice.

Aiyanna and Holt are there to help with damage helping all those POW 10s to become POW 12s and Holt is always a great shot.

My Lists for SoCal Smackdown

In two weeks is SoCal Smackdown and I'm planning on attending for most of the events and looking forward to meeting new people and getting a lot of games in.  I've never entered a tournament before so we'll see how it goes.  Here are some of the lists I've been making for the various events.

Friday

Mangled Metal 25pts

pButcher
Devastator
Juggernaut
Kodiak
Marauder

Take as many jacks as I can and have some fun.  No real thought into this list lol.

Tier Tournament 35pts

pButcher
Spriggan
Kodiak
Marauader
Full Winterguard + UA
Dog
Widowmakers
Widowmaker Marskman

Thought I would run pButcher since I have the models for it and I'm the most comfortable with him.  Again, taking a lot of Jacks because they're fun.  Spriggan can hit hard, bulldoze, and use flares to Widowmakers.  I rarely use the Marauder so I thought it would be fun to have him in the list.  Both he and the Kodiak can get to P+S 19 with Fury on them.  Devastator will most likely spearhead as I have to close as quickly as possible.  I really like having the Widowmaker group to harass, free up charge lanes, and flank if necessary.  Dog is there to be awesome as usual.  Lastly, Winterguard without Joe is strange but they will still be DEF 17 under Iron Flesh and Bob & Weave.  I'll rely on CRAs to hit.  Winterguard can tarpit for the Jacks or the Jacks can lead and soak up the damage for the Winterguard to approach and spray.

Strahkov
Devastator
Spriggan
Reinholt
Min Asssault Kommandos!
Full Kayazy Assassins + UA
Widowmakers
Widowmaker Marksman

I've never played Strahkov before >< but think this list might be fun to try.  Occulation will go on the AKs to keep them safe as they run (before shield wall) and later it can go on the Widowmakers to make them and the Marksman one helluva sniper group.  Devastator and Spriggan for bulldozing goodness and the Spriggan the ideal assassination threat with Reach.  Reinholt I'm thinking to give Strahkov one more shot and also measure assassination ranges.  Don't have that model yet.  Will definitely need to practice this list this coming week.

Saturday

Warmachine Weekend Qualifier 50pts Steamroller

eSorscha
Beast-09
Devastator
Great Bears
Full Kayazy Assassins + UA
Full Winterguard + UA + Joe
eEiryss
Aiyanna & Holt
Gorman
Saxon

I've been playing this list a lot and eSorscha is one of my favorite casters.  This list on feat turn is designed to do A LOT of damage to heavies and multi-wound models.  Beast and Bears mainly for anti armor duties and Kayazy can chip damage if need be.  Two great tarpitting units in the Assassins and the Winterguard.  A&H and Gorman help the army to do more damage with Harm and Rust Bomb.  Saxon was brought in to help the infantry with rough terrain and linear obstacles.  I normally had the Spriggan in and he was tough to lose because of his P+S 18 lance but Devastator brings in some insane armor and his Rain of Death and P+S 16s aren't too shabby on Sorscha's feat.  With two full units of infantry, thought it was best to have Saxon.  Many thanks to Patrick for helping me flesh out this list.

pButcher
Spriggan
Kodiak
Dog
Great Bears
Full Winterguard + UA + Joe
Full Kayazy + UA
Widowmakers
Widowmaker Marksman
eEiryss
Saxon

Another damage dealing list via the Butcher.  Fury is good with the Kodiak, Bears, Assassins, and if need be it can be given to Bear Strengthened Winterguard.  I like Butchers feat with this army as it should do a lot of damage.

So that leaves these models to paint until SoCal Smackdown:

Beast-09
Devastator
4 Kayazy Assassins + UA
10 Winterguard + Officer and Standard + Joe
eEiryss
Aiyanna & Holt
Gorman
Saxon
Strahkov
Wardog
Min Assault Kommandos
Widowmakers
Widowmaker Marksman

Realistically though, I'm aiming to only paint the models in my Hardcore list to meet the requirements.  That leaves the Winterguard, Kayazy, eEiryss, Gorman, and Saxon.  I can probably paint Gorman and Saxon in a day.  Kayazy will probably take three days with the Underboss.  Winterguard need finishing conversions which will probably take a day.  So the rest of the time will be for painting them.  I should make it :P.  What time I have left will go into my 50 point lists doing the Jacks next-- Beast-09 and the Devastator.  If I finish those I'll paint the Widowmakers and the Marskman for the pButcher 50pt list.

eSorscha Lists for Game Night

Want to take eSorscha tonight so during my lunch break I'm going to devise some lists.  With all the lists I want to take her Winterguard as she has a few ways to help them-- Deperate Pace gives them +2 movement and she also lets them reroll CRAs.  So lets start small:

eSorscha 15pts

eSorscha +6
Marauder
Winterguard Infantry
-Officer and Standard Bearer
-Two Rocketeers
Joe
Widowmaker Marksman

Marauder is there because I just painted him :P  Two Rockteers will be able to put some AOEs down while my forces advance.  Running Winterguard also because I want to practice with them and for a beginner like me, getting the activations right is tricky. In General, activate Sorscha to give Desperate Pace to the WG along with Iron Flesh.  Then activate Joe to buff them.  Then the WG.

Marksman is there mainly as a target for Sorscha's Shatterstorm spell which creates an AOE when a model is boxed.  Marksman should be good as he can auto damage infantry for 1 point and who knows, chain reaction some Shatterstorm.

eSorscha 25pts

eSorscha +6
Winterguard Infantry
-Officer and Standard Bearer
-One Rocketeer
Joe
Widowmaker Marksman

*Devastator
*Widowmakers
*Great Bears

At 25pts I'm adding in the Widowmakers to be the Shatterstorm unit.  Marksman isn't really necessary here but I'm keeping him in for kicks as he does grant the Widowmakers Swift Hunter.

Also bringing in the Great Bears for added awesomeness and to help with anti-armor duties.  Bears are really anti-anything and can do considerable damage to anything they attack.  With Sorscha's feat, Bears should bring down heavies quick.

Decided to upgrade the Marauder to a Devastator by taking out a Rocket.  ARM 25 is sweet and will be a problem to crack.  Was also considering a Kodiak instead because he's a good, all-around Jack and keeping two Rocketeers.  But want to keep playing the Dev to test it out.

 eSorsch 35pts

eSorscha +6
Winterguard Infantry
-Officer and Standard Bearer
-One Rocketeer

Joe
Widowmakers
Great Bears

*Beast-09
*Kayazy Assassins (max)
-UA

At 35 pts, it's time to bring in another unit. I have Uhlans waiting for Markov but until then I'll go with the tried and true Assassins with Underboss.  I'm also taking out the Marksman and upgrading to Beast-09.

eSorscha 50pts

eSorscha +6
Beast-09
Winterguard Infantry
-Officer and Standard Bearer
-Two Rocketeers

Joe
Widowmakers
Great Bears
Kayazy Assassins (max)
-UA

*eEiryss
*Gorman
*Devastator

At 50pts, I'm bringing in the support units-- Eiryss to help the army with upkeep removal and to be another sniper.  Gorman for his assortment of bombs and clouds.  I'm also bringing back the Devastator to help Beast and contest objectives.

So that's it! :D  I tested the 35 point list against Patrick last week and liked it a lot.  Fairly balanced in the things it can do and look forward to testing it out more.
